Hiring A Good Private Investigation Agency

from:

By Christopher Buckley

Either you are looking for an old friend or what to find out if
your spouse is cheating or just need to check out an employee or
tenant, a private investigation agency could help you. There are
a lot of agencies on the market and finding a good one should be
your top priority. So, just read further if you want to know
where to look and what should you ask.

Where to look

Fist in finding a good private investigation agency is to ask
your friends, lawyer or business associates for a referral. Word
of mouth gives you the opportunity to ask specific questions to
your needs and gives you the inside scoop. Check investigator
associations that have web sites and hat post their membership
directory.

There are multiple national private investigation organizations
that refer investigators; for example The National Association
of Investigative Specialists. You can check your state's legal
organizations such as American Trial Lawyer's Association
affiliates or the state defense bar because they have a
directory of recommended investigators.

Insurance companies use private investigation agencies
constantly so these can be an excellent resource, especially if
you need surveillance and background checks. Speak to a claims
representative and with a few inquiries you will find out the
investigators your insurance company uses and this is a good
referral.

Check Yellow Pages and Internet for private investigator
listings. Ask for references and check if the private
investigation agency is licensed. Also ask if the private
investigator has courtroom experience if you're going before a
jury and judge. Some investigators do not know the laws and
during an investigation they will end up doing something illegal
which causes you problems.

What should I ask?

Decide what's in your budget before you speak to a private
investigator and when you speak to him or she ask about the
outcome of that type of work you are seeking. You would also
want to see examples of reports they've done for similar cases.

While speaking to the investigator, gauge your comfort level.
After the investigation begins good communication will be
critical. Also, your investigator may have other ideas that are
worthy of exploration, so be open minded!

Sometimes you will be asked to pay a retainer up front so be
ready to do this. But if a private investigation agency doesn't
ask for one doesn't mean they are better at what they do.

Remember that a good private investigation agency can be your
best resource!
